Since the mid-2000s, the East Village has been transformed by Calgary City Council’s East Village Area Redevelopment Plan. Along with various utility upgrades, plazas and more, one of the most visible results of the redevelopment is the Jack and Jean Leslie RiverWalk and Celebration Square. Both offer spaces to relax within the city’s bustle, and many people enjoy cycling, running or walking along the RiverWalk.

East Village also contains Calgary’s earliest settled, Fort Calgary, and has been a bustling community since 1906. The area retains much of that history, such as the Simmons Mattress Factory and the King Edward Hotel.
