Downtown Calgary

Downtown is the heart of Calgary, comprising the Central Business District, Eau Claire, Chinatown, East Village, and the West End. It’s a popular place to live, providing a vibrant community with great access to amenities. The area has seen a large population increase, and corresponding development, in the last few years. Nowadays, it is a bustling neighbourhood with plenty of nightlife, restaurants and shops.

Unsurprisingly, given that it is the heart of the city, Downtown Calgary has a wide range of amenities. For those who enjoy the outdoors, Prince’s Island Park and the river paths are ideal places to take a stroll. Stephen Avenue Walk is the place to go for those who prefer their walking to include a little shopping. This mall includes many stores as well as cinemas, bars and restaurants. Further shopping options can be found in the Core Shopping Centre and the Scotia Centre. In general, downtown is a very walkable area, making it a great choice for those who prefer not to drive.

Downtown’s East Village also encompasses the government district, which is home to a public library and police headquarters. Culture vultures will also love downtown, finding plenty to occupy them at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, the Glenbow Museum and more.

For those with children, there are a number of public and private schooling options in Downtown Calgary, such as Western Canada High School, Connaught School and Mount Royal School. Rockyview General Hospital and Sheldon M Chumir Health Centre are both easily accessible for downtown residents.
